MU, MSJ split close-knit HCAC twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Sophomore second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) topped the offensive attack for Manchester University Sunday, April 10.

Ladwig blasted a pair of home runs and doubles, driving in five runs during the 14-inning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mt. St. Joseph's Kinder Morgan Complex. She hit a pair of two-run big flies in the top of the first inning of each contest and added an RBI double during a three-run fifth inning rally in the opener. Senior pitcher MacKenzie Williams, benefitting her game one mound decision in which she worked around 10 Lions' hits to collect her seventh win and complete game of the season, added a key two-run single in the fifth to help bolster the 5-3 victory.

MU (14-8 overall, 3-3 HCAC), in an attempt to move to 4-2 in league play, was dashed by a nightcap home team comeback. MSJ (10-12-1 overall, 2-4 HCAC) answered Ladwig's home run with single runs in the first and second and picked up back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of third in route to a 4-2 final. Junior pitcher Anna Schillinger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) turned in a strong effort with three Ks and just the four earned runs given up over six innings.

The Black and Gold resume a current six-game league road trip Tuesday, April 12. They take a short southern trek to league-leading Anderson University for a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m.
