DEFIANCE, OHIO – Senior midfielder Courtney Hersick (Plymouth, Ind.) picked a good time to forge her 15th career goal Wednesday, Oct. 18.

With the visiting Manchester University Spartans searching for an answer against Defiance College on the Yellow Jackets Winsper-Knobel Field, they got one in the 70th minute. Trailing 1-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation, Hersick blasted one of her 11 overall and six shots on goal past DC netminder Maddi Bowman to forge a 1-1 tie.

Both sides tried to break through the deadlock for the next 40-plus minutes of regulation and two overtimes to no avail, leaving the field in a 1-1, two extra session final. Junior goalkeeper Cami Holford (Valparaiso, Ind.) proved fierce versus 12 home shot on goal tries, knocking away all but one for 11 saves. Bowman, teammate Rachel Lowell and the DC defense gathered 17 of their own.

The Spartans (0-13-1 overall, 0-5-1 HCAC) continue life on the road with a trip to Mt. St. Joseph Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff at Scheuler Field on MSJ's campus is 1 p.m.
