Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio – The host Defiance College Yellow Jackets shot 57 percent on Wednesday night en route to a 99-83 victory over Manchester University in men's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball action.
Defiance made 36 total field goals, nailed 13 3-pointers, and shot a perfect 14-14 from the charity in its highest scoring output of the season.
Manchester shot 44.8 percent (30-67) on Wednesday night and knocked down 12 triples.
Matthew Westman (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) scored 24 points and made five 3-pointers to lead the Black and Gold offense. CJ Hampton (Hammond, Ind./Griffith) scored 21 points. Forward DeMoines Whitney (Detroit, Mich./Western International) added 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists against the Yellow Jackets.
Point guard Cortiz Buckner (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jefferson) added 10 points.
Defiance had four players score in double figures and were led by Sean Tyson's 25 points.
The Yellow Jackets snapped a five-game losing streak on Wednesday evening and improved to 8-6, 3-4 HCAC. DC's win on Wednesday was also its first over Manchester since November 2017.
Manchester fell to 5-9, 3-4 HCAC. The Spartans will host Franklin College in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Saturday January 18. Tip-off this weekend is scheduled for 2 p.m. before the women's game.
