Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester University was upended on Wednesday night by visiting Anderson University as the Ravens left Stauffer-Wolfe Arena with a hard-fought 65-54 victory.
Manchester and Anderson both dug in defensively on Wednesday evening as neither side shot the ball well from the floor. The Ravens shot just 37.7% (23-61) from the floor and 30% (7-23) from three-point territory. MU was limited to just 36.7% (22-60) shooting for the game. The Spartans shot only 31.8% (7-22) from downtown. Both teams also struggled at the charity stripe with Anderson finish 12-of-21 at the line and Manchester 3-of-14.
The Spartans were able to keep the HCAC's leading scorer, Maurice Knight, in check on Wednesday night. Knight entered play averaging 21.2 points per game. The Spartans held Knight to seven points on just 2-of-16 shooting.
Malik Laffoon led Anderson with 15 points.
For MU, DeMoines Whitney (Detroit, Mich./Western International) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Abdul Ogunnaike (Richton Park, Ill./Thornwood) made three three-pointers and tallied 13 points and six boards in 15 minutes off the bench. Keiton Hall (Lansing, Mich./Williamston) also knocked down three triples and finished with 11 points.
CJ Hampton (Hammond, Ind./Griffith) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Anderson won their fifth straight came and retained their spot atop the HCAC standings with the win. AU now sits at 7-5, 4-1 HCAC on the year.
The Spartans slipped to 4-8, 2-3 HCAC with the loss. Manchester will visit Earlham College on Saturday January 11. Game time against the Quakers is set for 4 p.m.
