Cross Country Places First at HCAC Championship

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Manchester Men's and Women's Cross Country team traveled to Bluffton, Ohio, over the weekend to compete at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Cross Country Championship. 

The Women's Cross Country Team placed first with a score of 52 points, with Hanover College trailing close behind with 59 points. Hannah Brubaker (Goshen, Ind., NorthWood) won the individual title, racing in a time of 22:56.2. Lauren Smith (Anderson, Ind., Lapel) finished in second place, with a time of 23:27.2. 

Brubaker was also voted as the HCAC Runner of the Year, along with head coach Brian Cashdollar, who was voted as the HCAC Women's Coach of the Year.  

Following the success of the women, the Men's Cross Country team placed third overall with a finishing score of 88 points. Rose-Hulman finished first, scoring 45 points, and Franklin came in second place, with a score of 73.  

Even though the Spartans placed third, Junior Connor Havens (LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte) finished in first, claiming the individual title, with a race time of 24:56.6.  Following Havens, Senior Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind., Plymouth) finished in second place, with a time of 25:06.3. Havens was named HCAC Runner of the Year alongside Brubaker.

Both teams will be back in action on November 12th, in Holland, Michigan as they will compete at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships.
