Box Score Collier's strike, occurring in the 83rd, minute helped Coach Dave Good's squad gain momentum late against the visiting Yellowjackets. However, the remaining offensive opportunities for the Black and Gold (3-11, 1-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) were thwarted by Defiance's defense.
Defiance took advantage of a 19-11 shots edge early on with a pair of goals in the opening half. The first occurred from a scrum in front of MU's net off a corner kick in the 33rd minute, while the second came on a shot that just went to the right of senior goalkeeper Grant Noakes' (LaPorte, Ind.) out-stretched hand in the 38th minute.
The senior duo of defender/midfielder/forward Cody Freels (Auburn, Ind.) and midfielder/forward Dian Radev (Burgas, Bulgaria) topped Manchester's shot attempts. Freels ended with four, while Radev compiled three.
MU returns to action Saturday, Oct. 13, when they host Mt. St. Joseph at 3 p.m. as part of Homecoming 2012 festivities.
