Second half hoals subdue Spartans

Box Score

Manchester, dipping to 3-9 and 1-1 in the HCAC, trailed 1-0 at the break after a breakaway score for Franklin in the first half. Coach Dave Good's squad came out strong in the second half and tied the contest off a nifty free kick combination between senior midfielder/forward Dian Radev (Burgas, Bulgaria) and senior defender/midfielder/forward Carson McFadden (Elgin, Ill.) Radev fed the ball to McFadden at the top left side of the box where McFadden stung a shot that weaved its way through the defense and off the hand of Franklin's keeper into the net in the 61st minute.

The Grizzlies (3-5-2, 1-1 HCAC) didn't give the Black and Gold much time to enjoy the tie. A scramble off a corner kick found the foot of senior defender Drew Ferguson who put it into the right corner of the MU net for the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute.  Franklin came back five minutes later to add their third and final score.

MU's senior midfielder/forward tandem of Lucas Shelly (Goshen, Ind.) and Andrew Gray (Anderson, Ind.) each tallied five shot attempts. On the opposite end of Spartan Field, senior goalkeeper Grant Noakes (LaPorte, Ind.) tallied six saves.

The Spartans take to the road in resuming their league slate Saturday, Oct. 6. Match time against Transylvania University of Kentucky is set for 1 p.m.
