Earlham holds off MU charge

Box Score

RICHMOND, IND. – Senior forward Austin Finley (Kokomo, Ind.) and freshman forward Travis Richardson (Elizabethtown, Ky.) each posted goals to headline a topsy-turvy Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match Saturday, Oct. 25.

Finley's team-leading sixth goal of the season occurred in the fifth minute of the clash between the Spartans (5-11 overall, 1-6 HCAC) and Earlham College (3-10-2 overall, 3-3-1 HCAC). EC responded with three successive scores including two over a 60-second span in the 55th minute that turned the outcome to the Quakers. The visitors answered with Richardson's third strike of the season with less than a minute to play but couldn't turn in the game-tying score of a 3-2 defeat.

Earlham held a 13-5 shots edge with four aimed at the Black and Gold net. Freshman keeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) turned in one save. Finley came up with two of the overall shot tries for the Spartans.

MU closes the regular season with back-to-back home contests. Franklin College begins the stretch Wednesday, Oct. 29, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on the pitch at Spartan Field.
