Jordan goal spotlights Trine battle

Box Score

ANGOLA, IND. – Sophomore midfielder Matthew Jordan (Zionsville, Ind.) added his name to the Manchester University goal list Saturday, Sept. 13, but it wasn't enough for Manchester University against in-state non-conference rival Trine University.

Jordan's second collegiate score, occurring in the 20th minute off a nifty corner kick from senior midfielder Josh Collier (Anderson, Ind.), tied up the two sides at 1-1 after TU opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Freshman goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) looked to keep the match at that level, swatting away six of his 10 saves in the opening 45 minutes until the home side cashed in on an opportunity to break the tie just four minutes from halftime.

Trine (3-2-1 overall) kept the offensive pressure on the Spartans (2-3) in the second 45 minutes. A 13-4 shots advantage helped to push across the final score in the 60th minute for a 3-1 Thunder decision.

MU finished the match with 12 shot attempts. Freshman forward Travis Richardson (Elizabethtown, Ky.) led the category with three tries, two of which were aimed at the home team's goal.

The Black and Gold return to Spartan Field Wednesday, Sept. 17, to face off against local rival Huntington University. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
