Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University and Anderson University gave the fans in attendance for a late-season Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference a 110-minute cliffhanger Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The Spartans (4-7-4 overall, 1-3-2 HCAC) and Ravens 3-8-4 overall, 1-2-2 HCAC) combined for nearly 60 shot attempts and kept MU sophomore goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) and AU keeper Nate Wadley on the move throughout both halves in regulation and in both overtime sessions. However, when the dust settled at Spartan Soccer Field, the two conference rivals had played to a 1-1 draw.
After the visitors tallied a goal less than five minutes in, MU chipped away at the opposing defense and finally got a ball into the Ravens' net less than five minutes from halftime. The freshman tandem of freshman midfielder Samuel Tetteh-Quarsie (Acra, Ghana) and fellow midfielder Ben Niederhelman (Ross, Ohio) worked together for the game-tying tally with Niederhelman picking up his first collegiate assist to aid in Tetteh-Quarsie's second score.
Both sides had numerous near misses during the second frame and in the extra sessions. However, Forman's nine saves against 10 AU shots on goal, and Wadley's eight saves against nine Spartan attempts on frame kept the score level. MU and AU also gathered a combined three team saves from quick-witted defenders in the box, while the crossbar and posts were also nicked on each end.
Manchester University closes its home regular season Saturday, Oct. 24. Earlham College comes to SSF for a 1 and 3 p.m. women's and men's doubleheader with Senior Day 2015 recognitions set during each match.
