NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A 13-run attack in game one helped send Manchester University to a series victory to close the 2015 regular season Saturday, May 2.

The Spartans rolled up a 13-4 win over visiting Franklin College in front of a large home crowd at Gratz Field behind 16 hits. MU's bats roughed up FC starter Hayden Cleveland to the tune of seven earned runs on nine hits over five innings and kept the pressure going on the Grizzlies' bullpen, as senior second baseman Logan Hug (Indianapolis, Ind.), highlighting his final appearance at home as a member of the six-person Class of 2015, drilled a three-run home run as part of four hits and five RBIs.

The nightcap went the way of the visitors by a 6-3 count. FC starter Seth Powers fired a complete-game victory with six strikeouts, despite a two-hit effort from senior shortstop Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.) which included a school-record 173rd career RBI.

Manchester University (24-13 overall, 17-10 HCAC) moves into the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Thursday, May 7, through Saturday, May 9. They face off with Rose-Hulman in one of two day one games at Anderson University's Don Brandon Field May 7 at 12 p.m.

NOTES: The Black and Gold, winners of 10 of their last 12, earn a conference postseason tourney bid for the 17th time in the last 19 years … Hug's numbers in the opener weren't the only striking ones for the home team. Kimm went three-for-three with three runs scored and reached base five times, while senior outfielder Kyle Norris (Indianapolis, Ind.) clouted a two-run home run as part of a two-hit game, and fellow senior outfielder Justin Miller (Yorktown, Ind.) produced two hits and two RBIs to support senior starting pitcher Sean Liedtky's (Walkerton, Ind.) eighth win of the year … Kimm surpassed former offensive standout Ty Foster for the top spot on the career RBI chart with a fifth-inning RBI single in game two … Senior third baseman Jordan Nieman (Michigan City, Ind.) increased his on-base skein to 38 successive games, going one-for-four with two runs scored in game one and reaching base on a pair of hit by pitches in the nightcap.
