Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University was able to keep North Coast Athletic Conference top five preseason pick Wabash College in its sights for the first 45 minutes Friday, Sept. 11.
Trailing just 1-0 at the break despite being out-shot 10-3 by the visiting Little Giants, the host Spartans started the second frame pressuring the visiting net. However, WC keeper Dayton Jennings was able to keep a clean sheet with four saves, while his offense got untracked with four goals converted on 10 shot attempts to pick up a 5-0 decision in the first match of the 2015 MU – Anderson University Raven-Spartan Classic.
Playing in front of a season home-opening crowd of better than 100 fans at Spartan Soccer Field, the Black and Gold's offense, which had been held to three scores in its previous three matches, made the opposing keeper earn the shutout. Sophomore defender/midfielder/forward Tod Oram (Crown Point, Ind.) blasted two shots on frame, while junior midfielder/forward Chris Hosier (Kokomo, Ind.) and fellow junior forward Ola Ladapo (London, England) had chances in the box in the second half that were also narrowly turned aside.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) reeled off his third straight five-or-more saves effort with five in the midst of a 20-11 shots edge for Wabash. The Spartans wrap up the Raven-Spartan Classic Saturday, Sept. 12, when Adrian College of Michigan comes to town for a 3 p.m. match at SSF.
