Spartans subdued in HCAC opener

Box Score

HANOVER, IND. – Sophomore midfielder Ryan Morley (Canton, Mich.) became the third Manchester University player to reach the four-goal mark, leading the Spartans in a 4-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference defeat at Hanover Saturday, Oct. 1.

Morley's score, occurring from the eight-yard area off a breakaway, lifted MU to a 1-0 lead at HC's Athletics Complex. Junior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) kept it there until the 36th minute when the home team collected a pair of match-turning scores in the span of just over a minute for a 2-1 halftime advantage. The two keepers kept the scoreboard that way into the 69th minute, as the Panthers wrapped up the decision with two scoring strikes in a nine-minute span.

Freshman midfielder Alex Baker (Fort Wayne, Ind.) topped a five-shot attack for Coach Corey Brueggeman's crew with two including one on goal. Forman, working through a 26-5 Hanover shots' advantage, turned in nine saves.

MU (6-2-2, 0-1 HCAC) looks to stop a two-game skid Wednesday, Oct 5. Anderson University visits Good Field at the Spartan Soccer Complex for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
