Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Sophomore midfielder Samuel Tetteh-Quarshie picked a great time to register his first collegiate multiple-goal effort.
Tallying scores in the 36th and 94th minutes, the Acra, Ghana, native moved to the top of Manchester University's goals chart and into a tie for the points lead. More importantly though, the two goals enabled the Black and Gold to capture a pivotal 3-2 overtime victory over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Anderson University Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Both of his scoring strikes gave MU (7-2-2 overall, 1-1 HCAC) leads. The first was off a pass inside the 18 from freshman midfielder Alex Baker (Fort Wayne, Ind.), setting him up perfectly for a blast that eluded AU net minder Ben Lapham for a 2-1 advantage late in the first half. The second, a game-winner in front of a loud and appreciative Good Field crowd of over 100 fans, was placed on his forehead off a crossing shot from senior midfielder Ola Ladapo (London, England) in the 94th minute sending the program to its first win over its rivals since 2008 and the first home series decision since 2007.
Along with the final score, the remaining match statistics were nip-and-tuck. The two sides each generated 14 total shots with the Spartans holding a slim 8-6 lead in shots on goal. AU tallied one more save (5-4) and corner kick (4-3), and the home team dished out one more assist than its guests. Ladapo topped MU's overall shot totals with three, and junior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) wound up with three saves to lead other individual categories.
The Spartans, sitting tied for fourth on the league standings with Earlham, resume a pair of critical Homecoming Week 2016 clashes Saturday, Oct. 8. Loop leader Rose-Hulman comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
