INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Manchester University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference doubleheaders to DePauw over the weekend in Indianapolis.

Saturday March 7 - Game 1 – DePauw 7, Manchester 0 (7 innings) – Box Score

The Tigers of DePauw University scored six runs in the top of the second inning and rode the stellar pitching of starter Nick Casey to earn a 7-0 victory over the Manchester Spartans in the first game on Saturday afternoon.

Casey limited the Spartans to just one hit and struck out six batters.

Joe Henschel (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) doubled to right to break up Casey's no-hit bid.

Nick Rush (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) tossed 2.0 solid innings of relief. Rushed faced the minimum of six batters, allowing just one hit while striking out a pair and inducing a double play groundball.

Saturday March 7 - Game 2 – DePauw 19, Manchester 13 – Box Score

DePauw jumped out to an early 12-1 lead after tallying three runs in the first inning, five runs in the second, and four runs in the fourth.

Manchester would go on to score the game's next nine runs and trailed just 12-10 at the end of the fourth inning.

Joe Henschel led Manchester's nine-run burst with a pair of home runs. Henschel hit a three-run bomb to right in the bottom of the third and hit a two-run shot to straight away centerfield in the bottom of the fourth. Henschel finished the game 4-5 with a triple, a double and 6 RBI.

After MU's push, the DePauw Tigers responded with three solo home runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 15-10. DU would add runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings, while Manchester added a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Michael Pinarski (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) went 3-5 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Hunter Seegers (Westport, Ind./South Decatur) and Caden Reed (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) both drive in two runs against the Tigers.

Sunday March 8 - Game 3 - DePauw 5, Manchester 3 – Box Score

The Tigers held on to win a narrow 5-3 decision over the Spartans in the first game on Sunday afternoon at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.

Kyle Callahan hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Joe Henschel helped the Spartans get a run back in the sixth with a sac fly to center field.

DePauw would go on to score the game's next two runs before Zaine Young (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) delivered an RBI double to left center and Zach Thomas (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) scored on a wild pitch.

Manchester starter Carter Hooks (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) went 6.0 innings in his first start of 2020, allowing six hits and three runs. He struck out a pair of DePauw batters.

Sunday March 8 - DePauw 8, Manchester 5 – Box Score

The Tigers completed the four-game sweep of Manchester by taking the fourth and final game on Sunday afternoon by an 8-5 final.

DePauw once again jumped out to an early advantage. DU scored three runs in the first and added two more in the second.

Manchester would rally and scored the game's next five runs. Brett Kron (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) got MU into the scoring column with a two-run homer to left in the fourth inning.

After the Spartans added another run in the fifth inning, Isaiah Knight-Neraasen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) singled home Joe Gallatin (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central). An error on Neraasen's single allowed Hunter Freeman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) to score, tying the game at 5-5.

DePauw quickly regained its footing in the final game of the weekend series. DU responded to MU's five-run burst with another home run by Kyle Callahan, this time a two-run shot to left, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Callahan went 6-18 with two home runs and 12 RBI during the weekend.

The Tigers would add one more run in the eighth inning via a solo home run by Nick Nelson.

Four different Spartans collected two hits in the final game of the weekend. Joe Henschel went a combined 7-14 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and 7 RBI.

Manchester (1-5) will head to Taylor on Wednesday March 11. DePauw (4-4) will face Calvin College on Saturday March 14.
